Carole Wunner

Carole A. (Weigle) Wunner, age 81, of Erie, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Saint Vincent Hospital. Born in Warren, Pennsylvania, on September 28, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Hazel Weigle.

Carole graduated as valedictorian of her class at both Warren High School and Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She later earned a master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. After completing her education, she first worked as a roving reporter for the Erie Times and then in corporate communications for Saint Vincent Health Center, where she remained for thirty years.

An active member of the Cathedral of St. Paul, she volunteered in both the food pantry and altar guild. Carole was a long-time member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and was a past president of the AAUW's Erie branch. She volunteered with Friends of the Library and was a member of the Welcome Club. Most recently she enjoyed reading with students at Emerson Gridley School. In her free time she loved to play bridge and read.

Carole was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Klashak.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Siegfried Wunner; a daughter, Susanne C. Fitch, and her husband, Bradford, of Fairfax, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Josephine Fitch, of Fairfax, Virginia.

Friends may attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 6, at 1:30 PM, at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul, 134 West 7th Street, Erie, PA., which will be followed by a reception from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the same location.
