Guard E. Pierce, 81, of North Warren, died Thursday, January 5, 2017, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center. Guard was born October 2, 1935, in Warren. He is the son of the late Guard E. Pierce, Sr., and Isabelle (Ferry) Pierce.
He served as a cook in the Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. Guard worked at the Warren State Hospital for many years, retiring as Dietary Supervisor. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and a member of the Marine Corps League. He was known for his awesome sense of humor and willingness to help everyone he could.
Guard is survived by three children, Whitney Hachem, of Clearwater, FL, Brian Albaugh and Teanna Pierce, both of Warren; four siblings, Pamela Pierce, of Warren, Richard Pierce, of Pittsfield, Jack Pierce, and wife, Sue, of Warren, and Walter Pierce, also of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on September 22, 2006, by his wife, Carolyn Pierce.
Friends will be received at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 6616 Market Street, Russell, PA, on Monday, January 16, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., at which time a Celebration of Life service will be held there with Pastor Lynn Gatz, officiating. Private burial will be at Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
