Eisenhower senior shines at national skills competition
Caleb Eyler competed in the Skills USA autobody national competition this past summer.
Eyler, a senior at Eisenhower, placed first in both the regional and the state Skills USA competitions earlier this year. He advanced to the national competition, which was held June 19-24 in Louisville, Ky., and placed 13th there.
Eyler will also be competing in the 2017-18 competition as a senior, which starts at the District 10 level at the Erie Insurance National Learning Center in Erie, Pa.
“Caleb’s success has led to several scholarships to post-secondary” education, said Warren County Career Center autobody instructor Robert Smith.
The Skills USA competition consists of resume, plastic bumper repair, fender repair, welding, frame measuring, interview skills, and testing of industry knowledge.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to participate in the skills competition again,” said Caleb. “At this point, I will be focusing on strengthening my skills needed to compete in the collision repair competition at District 10. With my goal being returning to the state competition held in Hershey, Pa., I’m also looking forward to having my best friend Justin Hagberg competing with me in the automotive refinish competition. My experience in the auto collision program and competing in the skills competition has bee very rewarding,. Having this experience will provide me with the knowledge and opportunity to successfully enter the work force after high school.”
