Henry Rutsky, Sr.

Henry Rutsky, Sr.

Henry Rutsky, Sr., of Pittsfield, PA, went clear of this world on January 5, 2020. He was born on July 13, 1927, in Pricedale, PA, the son of Stanley and Josephine Rutsky. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Bernice Weilacher Rutsky; his brothers, Frank and Joe Rutsky; two sisters, Rosie Evanczik and Stella Smith; and a son, Steve Rutsky. He is survived by2 sisters, Mary Holland and Jennie Jones; four sons, Henry “Chip” Rutsky, David “Randy” Rutsky, Kevin Rutsky, and John Rutsky; four granddaughters, Kristina Mirti, Wendy Rutsky, Sylvia Rutsky, and Cindy Rutsky; and many beautiful greatgrandchildren.

Henry was raised on his family’s dairy farm atop Stilson Hill outside of Sugar Grove, PA, during the Depression years. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during the occupation of Germany from September 1945 to February 1947 and was honorably discharged. He was a school bus contractor from 1947 to 2013 and drove a school bus for 59 years – a feat of endurance for which he received a standing ovation from his fellow drivers at the county’s School Bus Drivers Dinner one year.

Henry will be remembered for his many endearing traits of personality and absolute fidelity to his loved ones. He liked to take long walks with his dogs to watch the sunset from the top of the hill. He loved gardening, especially growing tomatoes and flowers. He taught himself to play the harmonica and would often play for his children and Labrador retriever, Thad. He was an avid fisherman who fished all the local waterways for decades. Finally, he quit fishing altogether to care for his ailing wife, his eternal beloved Bernie, whom he would visit at the nursing home every single day of her residency there until the day of her passing on to the next world.

Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East St., Warren, PA, on Friday, January 10, 2020, from 13pm at which time a funeral and committal service will be held with Rev. Preston Cathcart, Pastor of Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Stilson Hill Cemetery. Email condolences may be sent by visiting www.lewisfuneralhome inc.com.
