Four Flags ceremony Saturday

Times Observer file photo The Four Flags Ceremony will be held Saturday at 10:45 a.m.

The annual Four Flags Ceremony will be held at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Point, Crescent Park at the foot of the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Warren.

The event will feature the presentation and raising of the flags of nations — the Seneca Nation of Indians, France, England, and the United States — that have claimed the county in the past.

Since 1968, the event has celebrated the history of Warren.

The event was not always called Four Flags. The French Fleur-de-Lis, the British Kings Colors, and the Betsy Ross American Flag were flown that from the inaugural year through 1986.

The Seneca held contests to design a flag, first flown in 1986, for the location because they did not historically use a flag.

The keynote speaker will be Mark Davis, retired educator and Allegheny Center for the Arts board member.

Music will be provided by the Elks Community Band and the Conewango Clippers.
