Warren competitive spirit team advances to states

For the third straight year the Warren competitive spirit team advances to states.

ERIE — Three cheers for Warren! Or, better said, three years for Warren as its competitive spirit team has qualified for states for the third straight year after Saturday’s District 10 meet at McDowell Senior High School.

Seven teams competed for four PIAA berths and, in the end, the Dragons qualified for the at-large bid in the D10 Large School Division. McDowell — two-time defending PIAA Co-Ed Division champion — will get a chance to make it three in a row in the co-ed division, while Hickory captured the Large School title and Harbor Creek the Small School championship.

“We hope to put a good fight at states,” said Warren competitive spirit coach Melissa Feaster, whose Dragons finished second to Hickory in the Large School group, but had the fourth highest score of the seven teams. “The girls were disappointed in not being champions and cleared out of the gym quick. They are ready to fight at states, though!

“This was our highest score at D10 championships,” added Feaster, “but scored higher at states last year.”

Warren seniors include Lauren Andersen, Emma Carlson, Ryleigh Ecklund, Madelyn Flannery, Abigail Kent, Jayna Phillips, and Molly Suppa; juniors, Ella Bouchard, Elena Brocklehurst, Loralei Massa, and Lauren Shattuck; sophomores, Annette Carrington, Shaina Critzer, Hailey Graham, Maddelyn Herzog, Hannah Lockamy, Kendra Noe, Naveah Seekins, and Emily Sudul; and freshmen, Peyton Kent, Kendra Tudor, and Delaney Wright. Assistant coaches are Wendy Carrington and Alyssa Strandburg.

The preliminary round at states is scheduled for January 27 in Hershey.
