Gray shines on mound, at plate for Knights
RUSSELL — Teagan Gray did it at the plate and on the mound for Eisenhower on Friday.
Gray hit a two-run triple in the first inning, then threw a complete-game five-hitter with five strikeouts as the Knights beat Youngsville 14-4 in five innings.
Eisenhower took a 5-0 lead after the first inning and went up 6-0 in the second before the Eagles answered with a four-run top of the third inning.
“It wasn’t the pitching that created it,” Eisenhower coach Clint Corse said of the Eagles’ four-run inning. “Sometimes teams put runners on base, you can’t avoid it. We made some changes and got right back at it.”
The Knights answered with two in the fourth and six more in the fifth to end the game.
Eisenhower had just five hits, but benefited from five walks and seven Youngsville errors.
Gray drove in three runs while Jared Beers and Kael Hunt each drove in two. Zane Alexander scored four runs.
The Knights will travel to Rocky Grove this morning at 11 a.m. before finishing their regular season at Cambridge Springs on Wednesday.
