ERIE — Warren’s baseball team jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Erie and held on Saturday for a 7-5 Region 5 road victory.

For the second straight game, Archie Teconchuk earned the save for the Dragons (3-0).

Warren scored twice in the first inning as Micah Passmore had an RBI triple and scored on an RBI groundout by Ben Berdine.

Berdine made it 3-0 in the third inning with a double, plating Passmore again. Alex Borger followed with a two-out, two-run triple, scoring Berdine and James Swanson, who was hit by a pitch.

The Royals scored two runs in the bottom of the third by way of Braden Lazar’s two-run double.

The Dragons stretched the lead to 7-2 in the fifth on catcher Gio Elinsky’s second hit in as many innings.

Erie cut into the lead when Kevin Fuentes had an RBI double in the bottom half, and Jose Quinones drew a bases-loaded walk.

A Juan Ramos groundout made it 7-5 in the sixth.

Teconchuk shut the door for the second time in as many games, coming on in relief of Owen Blum with no outs in the sixth. He left runners stranded in the seventh with a game-ending double play, shortstop Passmore unassisted to first baseman Berdine.

Elinsky and Borger had two hits apiece for the Dragons, while Fuentes had two hits for the Royals, held to six hits as a team.

Ben Sowa got the win for Warren, allowing two runs in 3.2 innings, striking out five. Blum went 1.1 before being relieved by Teconchuk.

Warren is 2-0 in the region; Erie 0-2. The Dragons host Harbor Creek in a battle of unbeaten teams today at Legion Field. Harbor Creek is 3-0 in Region 5.

“We’re not playing our best ball as we haven’t put all three facets of the game together yet,” said Warren coach Rick Eaton, “and we will have to on Monday versus Harbor Creek, which is already 7-0 (overall).”
