Villa Maria girls too much for Warren

LaVan: ‘They are at a level above us’

Much like during their first meeting in Erie, Warren couldn’t find any answers against nonleague Villa Maria in girls basketball Thursday at Warren Area High School.

The Victors jumped out to a 17-3 lead after the first quarter en route to a 51-19 victory.

Warren made just three field goals on the evening with 12 of their points coming at the free throw line.

“They are at a level above us,” Warren head coach Lisa LaVan said. “That is OK, too. We go back to work to keep improving.”

All six of Emma Ruhlman’s points came at the charity stripe to lead the Dragons.

Rachel Majewski led Villa Maria with 12 points and Carissa Dunham scored 11 while Ava Waid and Daniels Shaughnessy each scored 10.

“They are a good team. We continue to learn and improve,” LaVan said. “Playing great competition like that only helps us.”
