Ike’s Trumbull is Player of the Year

Times Observer Photo by Scott Reagle Eisenhower quarterback Owen Trumbull was named the District 10 Region 5 Player of the Year.

After a perfect regular season, several Eisenhower football players were honored as District 10 All-Region 5 choices Wednesday.

Senior quarterback/defensive back Owen Trumbull garnered top honors as the Region 5 Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound co-captain and three-year starter for the Knights culminated his career with a stellar senior season that saw him complete 79 of 128 passes for 1,294 yards and 18 touchdown passes with just three interceptions. He also carried the ball 44 times for 388 yards rushing and added five touchdowns on the ground.

The offensive highlight of Trumbull’s season was an 11-for-14 performance when he threw for 252 yards and six touchdowns against Iroquois.

Trumbull also started at defensive back for the Knights. He contributed 11 solo tackles and 25 assists, a total that included six tackles for a loss.

Trumbull is being recruited and has not chosen a college yet.

Eisenhower also had 10 players named to the First-Team Offense and seven selected to the First-Team Defense.

Chosen on offense were junior tight end Mike Jones, senior wide receivers Dillon Benson and Caleb Robinault, Trumbull, junior running back Cael Black, senior offensive linemen Jared Beers and Brodie Porter, junior offensive lineman Gannon Jaquay, junior kicker Jake Venman and senior all-purpose player Zane Alexander.

Selected to the First-Team Defense were senior defensive lineman Colby Haag, Black at defensive line, Jaquay at linebacker, Beers at linebacker, and Trumbull, Alexander and Robinault at defensive back.

Sophomore offensive linemen Caleb Penley and Conner Younger were named to the Second-Team Offense.

Sophomore defensive lineman Mike Vanatta, sophomore linebacker Benji Bauer and sophomore defensive back Trevor Welker were named to the Second-Team Defense.
