Championship Night is Friday at Raceway 7

MONROE CENTER, Ohio — The abbreviated 2020 regular racing season will come to an end Friday with champions crowned as points racing ends. Besides five-star racing, a giant fireworks display by Gibson of Titusville will be presented after darkness falls.

One points race ended last Friday as the Street Stocks are not scheduled to race this week. Paul Davis is the 2020 Street Stock champion by 50 points over Joe Stajnrajh. The defending champion, Pat Fielding, finished third, another 11 points behind Stajnrajh. Former champion Ed Bolyard finished another six points back for fourth on the year with Gary Miller fifth, 29 points behind Bolyard. Davis won opening night then had consistently high finishes to earn the title. Stajnrajh went to Victory Lane on June 26. Other winners were Jason Black on July 24 and Fielding on Aug. 7. Shane Applebee was the victor last Friday in his only appearance of the season.

Going into the final night of points racing, Matt Latta leads Breyton Santee in the RUSH Late Model standings by 37 points. Latta won both July 17 and July 24, and also has four second-place finishes. Former champion Kyle Zimmerman, still without a win this season, currently is third another 22 markers behind Santee, the Aug. 7 winner. Defending class champion Darrell Bossard sits fourth, a total of 111 points from the leader. With only 62 points still available, Bossard will not repeat his championship. Bossard picked up the Aug. 14 win. Jason Genco, who won July 3, has a second and two thirds. Even though absent two weeks of the eight contested he stands fifth, only four points from fourth.

Brent Rhebergen, the winner opening night and Aug. 14, leads defending champion Mike Kinney in the E-Mod points chase. Kinney picked up the wins June 26, July 24 and last week. Joel Watson, with 58 career wins the all-time win leader at Raceway 7, is third, another 34 points back. July 17 winner Dennis Lunger is fourth, 62 points from the lead. Lunger had perhaps the worst luck of the season last week when he built up a huge 4-second lead, only to crash near the end of the race when a competitor slowed to enter the pit. Josh McDonald is currently fifth, only two markers out of fourth. McDonald has not yet scored a win this season but has run consistently near the front with a second place finish July 3.

The tightest points race is for the RUSH Modifieds with Rob Kristyak, the July 17 winner, leading by only six points over Chas Wolbert, the July 31 winner. Aug. 14 winner Kyle Martel is third, another 23 points back. Fourth place is Kole Holden, yet another 23 points back. Holden was the July 3 winner. Tony Tatgenhorst is fifth, without a win heading into the final points event of the season. Garrett Krummert was the June 26 winner, his only appearance of the season. He sits 15th in points.

Nate Young leads the Economod points by a 53-point margin over Dustin Demattia. Young has won the last two weeks and has finished in the top five every feature this season. Demattia was Aug. 7 winner and only finished out of the top five twice. Matt Alexander won on June 26 and is third, only 12 points behind Demattia. Zack Lenart picked up the win on opening night and has several good finishes to run fourth in points, 114 points behind the leader. Jarett Young scored the win on July 3 and is fifth, another 25 behind Lenart. Jeremy Double, an infrequent visitor this season, got the win July 17 and is currently 13th in the rankings. Bill Watson came across the finish line first July 24 and is 15th. Mitchell Wright, the July 31 winner, is currently 10th in points.

Jessica Harvey needs only to start the Mini-Stock heat or feature to lock in her first championship. She holds a 61-point lead over Mark Lawrence. Zoey Gill is third, another 50 points back. Dalton Speer is fourth, 43 points behind Gill. Last week’s winner, Emily Stoyer, is fifth 207 points from the lead.

Two postseason races are planned, the first being the annual $5,000 to win “September Shootout” Super Late Model show scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12 with an open practice scheduled the night before. The E-Mods will also compete for $2,000, the RUSH Sprints for $700 to win, and the Mini-Stocks for $350. Then on Oct. 2, the Lucas Oil Late Models will battle it out for $12,000 to win in the second annual “Great Lakes 50.”
