Warren tennis opens season with blanking of Mercyhurst Prep

Gracie Wood and the Warren tennis team opened their season with a 5-0 win over Mercyhurst Prep.

ERIE, Pa. – The Warren Dragons girls tennis team opened their season with a 5-0 victory over Mercyhurst Prep.

Gracie Wood was victorious at first singles by a score of 6-0, 6-1 over Alie DiNicola. At second singles Emily Lenore Grimm defeated Julia Eagley 6-2, 6-3. And at third singles, Taylor Lester defeated Katie Benson 6-2, 6-1.

“All of our singles players were ready for the season to start,” said head coach Jon Meyer. “All three of them came ready to play and it showed.”

In doubles action, Ceci Citro and Maddie Rodgers were victorious at first doubles, defeating Ava Catrabone and Sophie Jageman 6-0, 6-0.

“Ceci and Maddie were in command from the very beginning,” said assistant coach Colin Kenney. “They played well together and dominated the entire match.” Kaity McCracken and Alanna Hultberg won at second doubles via forfeit.

In exhibition play, Kelsey Pratt and Sydney Anderson defeated teammates Corinn Gern and Rylee Nuhfer 8-6, Meg McGuinness defeated Alanna Hultberg 8-6 and Meg McGuinness was leading Kaity McCracken 3-2 when the match was stopped due to time constraints.

The Dragons are 1-0 on the year. They are on the road Friday at Conneaut, OH.
