Warren tennis falls to Hickory, 4-1

The Warren girls tennis team were in action at Betts Park Thursday, falling to Hickory 4-1.

Warren’s lone win came at first singles where Gracie Wood defeated Morgan Bender 6-1, 2-6, 6-0. At second singles, Emily Grimm lost to Caroline McGonigle 6-2, 6-2. At third singles, Taylor Lester was defeated by Isabelle Frangakis 6-1 6-2.

“We played a very good Hickory team today” said head coach Jon Meyer. “I was very pleased with how Gracie was able to pull out a victory. Emily and Taylor played well. We know the things we need to work on to improve.”

At first doubles, Ceci Citro and Maddie Rodgers faced tough opponents in the team of Emily Spielvogle and Leah Martin, falling 6-2, 6-0. At second doubles, Alanna Hultberg and Meg McGuinness lost go Lauren Ordinario and Kate Morelli 6-1, 6-3.

“It was a tough day for both of our doubles teams,” said assistant coach Colin Kenney. “They’re still learning how to play as a team. I expect them to be more successful when we face Hickory again.”

Ceci Citro returns serve against Hickory.

The Dragons are 1-2 on the year. Their next match is Tuesday at defending region champion Fairview.
