Warren golfers take fifth at GM

EDINBORO, Pa. – Competing in their second Region 6 mega match in as many days, Warren golfers were able to shave seven strokes off their Thursday score.

The result, however, remained the same for the Dragons as they finished fifth at the Culbertson Hills Golf Resort in Edinboro Friday.

Erie Cathedral Prep took top honors again with a 293. Meadville (316) edged out McDowell (319) for second, with the Trojans taking third. Fort LeBoeuf (324) and Warren (370) remained fourth and fifth, respectively. While Erie (373) and the event’s host, General McLane (385), finished sixth and seventh.

Prep’s Patrick Kelly was the individual medalist with a 6-under 66. Meadville’s Ryan Ferry (70) finished second with Kelly’s teammate, Tanner Sliker (73) third. Fort LeBoeuf’s Derrick Sheilds and McDowell’s Skyler Carr tied for fourth, each shooting a 75.

Joey Sidon was the top Warren golfer again. He finished in a tie for 15th with an 83. Jared Bupp (85) was just two strokes behind, with Drew Swanson (94), Storm Sivak (108) and Selvie Pearson (110) rounding out the scoring for the Dragons.

After two matches, Prep is in the team lead with 14 points. McDowell and Meadville are tied for second with 11 points. Fort LeBoeuf (8) is fourth with Warren (6) fifth and Erie and General McLane tied for sixth with three points each.

Warren will look to gain some ground in the standings as the next Region 6 mega match will be held at Blueberry Hill on Thursday, Aug. 30.
