WAHS Media Night open to the public

Warren’s Marvin Bryant runs the ball during an intrateam scrimmage at Warren Area High School, Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018. The Dragons will look to Bryant as their primary back this year as they try to improve from a 2-8 season in 2017.

Warren Area High School athletics will be holding its second annual Media Nightfor fall sports teams, beginning at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Field tonight.

In the event of inclement weather, festivities will be moved to War Memorial Field.

All teams need to be in uniform and be ready to get a team picture taken, with football kicking things off at 6:30 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend the event.

It promises to be an exciting fall for the Dragons across the spectrum, beginning with volleyball and the boys and girls soccer programs.

Volleyball is coming off an appearance in the District 10 Class 3A title game against General McLane and returns almost all of its core group – Julia Lobdell, Ellie Lobdell, Lydia Latimer, Celia Chase, Lex Nyquist, Grace Wortman and Jordan Sitler, among others.

Both soccer teams suffered narrow defeats in the District 10 playoffs a season ago, and both have high expectations once again this season.

The football team, coming off a 2-8 campaign, moves into Class 5A this season and is optimistic following a strong offseason coupled with a talented group of returning athletes.

Golf loses state qualifier Rachel Wilson, who is now competing at California University of Pennsylvania, but still has a solid group coming back, as does the tennis team.

Golf opens open with a pair of Region 6 matches at Erie and General McLane today and Friday, while tennis opens on Monday at Mercyhurst Prep.

The football season kicks off next Friday with Warren hosting Fairview.
