Post 135 drops close one to Millcreek

Ben Berdine pitched five brilliant innings, but Post 135 Jr .Legion fell to Millcreek 3-1 on Monday.

Post 135 scored its only run in the first inning. James Swanson doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Hunter Loomis’ sacrifice fly to right.

That run looked as if it might hold up, but Millcreek had other ideas.

Swanson relieved Berdine in the sixth and was the victim of some tough luck. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Millcreek, and a seeing-eye single allowed them to take a 2-1 lead.

They were able to tack on an insurance run for the 3-1 margin.

Berdine allowed three hits in his five innings of work, striking out four.

Mitchell Fiorelli started on the mound and went six innings for Millcreek, allowing just the one run on four hits.

Ethan Wilson, Cael Hunt and Berdine had Post 135’s other hits.

“It was a pretty clean game,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “I’m happy with how we played.”

Post 135, which finished third in the state a season ago, has one game left in the regular season, a makeup against River Valley at Werner Park, with first pitch slated for 6 p.m., weather permitting.

The playoffs will begin on Monday. Post 135 is locked into the No. 3 seed, with Harbor Creek the top seed and Millcreek No. 2
