Dragons finish Region 3 unbeaten

Warren's Jake McCollough.

EDINBORO – Having already clinched the Region 3 title, Warren put an exclamation point on the final megamatch of the season at Culbertson Hills.

Jake McCollough shot a 74 to earn medalist honors as the Dragons shot a team score of 325, 10 shots better than second place Meadville.

“The region was clinched, but they also wanted to go undefeated in the region,” said Warren coach Dan Passmore. “It (Culbertson Hills) is a links style course, it’s really nice. It’s really unique how it is set up.”

Ryan Ferry paced the Bulldogs with a 79, while Warren’s Rachel Wilson shot an 80 and Jared Bupp 85.

McCollough finished with an average of just under 75 during the five megamatches, while Joey Sidon and Wilson both came in a a shade under 80.

“Joey Sidon wasn’t there today and Jared Bupp came in and played very well,” Passmore said.

Ferry was the only other golfer to average under 80.

Meadville did capture second place overall in the region with their second place finish, with Grove City coming in third, Conneaut fourth and GM fifth.

The Dragons will play a JV match at home against Oil City on Wednesday, followed by two invitationals next Tuesday and Friday – the Meadville Invitational and the Mook Memorial at Franklin.
