In first meeting of season, Post 135 comes back to beat Blair
Drake Gens’ walkoff single capped Post 135’s 4-run rally as they came from behind to defeat Blair, 7-6, at Legion Field Monday.
Post entered the inning trailing 6-3. Jameson Douvlos and Derek Knapp drew back-to-back, one out walks before Owen Balas blasted a triple to left. Lance Baldensperger grounded out, but Balas scored on the play to tie the game. Seth Baldensperger singled and advanced on an error to set up Gens for the game winner.
“We started the season cold and weren’t hitting,” said Post coach Daryl Baldensperger. “We told them to come out swinging and good things would happen.”
Balas got things started for Post with a one out single in the first. Lance Baldensperger followed with a single on a well-executed hit-and-run. Two batters later, Gens’ ground ball to short was misplayed, giving Post a 1-0 lead.
Blair answered with three runs in the top of the second. Singles by Chris White and Brady Blair put runners on first and second. Ryan Arnold and Hunter Loomis followed with back-to-back doubles to put Blair up 3-1. Knapp’s RBI single in the bottom half made it 3-2 after two.
Lance Baldensperger led off the third with a single and scored when Seth Baldensperger’s fly ball to center was dropped. Seth was thrown out trying to advance to third on the play, but the error tied the game at 3-3.
Neither team scored again until Blair broke through in the top of the sixth. Aidan Morrison doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Mitch Grosch’s triple to the fence in left. Grosch scored on White’s two-out double. Blair’s hard hit ground ball bounced off first baseman Adam Irwin’s glove, allowing White to score and put Blair up 6-3.
Adam Munksgard pitched six innings for Post before giving way to Seth Baldensperger in the seventh.
“Adam did a tremendous job,” Daryl Baldensperger said. “His off-speed pitches had the batters off.”
White led Blair with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Grosch and Morrison also had two hits. Balas paced the Post offense with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Lance and Seth Baldensperger had two hits each.
This was the first of three meetings between the two teams this season.
“It’s always a fun battle because the boys all know each other,” Daryl Baldensperger said. “It’s usually an exciting game too.”
Blair hosts Youngsville Post 658 Wednesday; however, the game will be played at Davis Street Field in Youngsville due to scheduled maintenance at Legion Field. Post 135 travels to Corry to face Northwest Savings Bank.
