Warren softball drops 3-2 decision at Franklin

FRANKLIN – If it wasn’t for bad luck, Warren softball wouldn’t have any luck in their recent string of games.

The Lady Dragons fell to 10-5 with another loss in the opposing team’s (in this case Franklin) final at-bat, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Lady Knights.

Ellie Lobdell was sharp on the mound, striking out five, but a pair of errors in the bottom of the seventh proved to be too much for Warren to overcome, as Franklin scored twice after trailing 2-1 going into the inning.

Franklin struck for a lone run to take the lead in the second inning, but Warren came back to tie it in the third, as Alexis Nyquist’s sacrifice fly brought in Celia Chase, who had doubled to start the frame.

The Lady Dragons took the lead in the fourth, as Megan Wortman had the second-straight leadoff double and came around to score on an error.

That lead held until the seventh, with Franklin earning the walk-off win.

“We are right in the thick of the race and we are going to scratch and claw and battle until the end,” said Warren coach Jon Sitler. “And it’s nowhere near the end. We have more to do. We are going to focus on the little things – communication, fundamentals, energy – and the big things will take care of themselves. We have four games next week and then the playoffs start. Our season starts next week.”
