Lady Knights drop Region 3 opener on the road at Maplewood
GUYS MILLS — Foul trouble hurt Eisenhower in Wednesday’s Region 3 opener at Maplewood, as the Lady Knights fell to the host Tigers by a final score of 56-28.
“We came out very well in the first quarter and kept up the intensity in the second, but we started to foul a little too much,” said Ike coach Mike Logue. “They were 8-of-12 from the foul line in the second quarter, and Kirsten Baran picked up her fourth foul and had to sit most of the third. She’s a senior we count on for a lot of our scoring, rebounding and defense.”
With Baran out in the third, Maplewood forward Maggie Hunter was able to score eight of her game-high 18 points. Hadley Barker added 12 for the Lady Tigers, who outscored Ike 34-10 in the middle frames.
Baran was still able to score 15 points while Lydia Giannini had five rebounds and Delaney Nizzi racked up four steals.
“We’re a young team with only two seniors and not a lot of varsity experience,” Logue said. “I thought we played hard and gave what I think is one of the best teams in our region a good game. We’re getting better.”
In JV action, Shelby Kuzminski scored 10 points for Eisenhower in a 51-22 loss.
The Lady Knights host Cranberry on Monday before jumping back into their Region 3 schedule against Union City on Thursday.
