Warren County Christian takes second

ERIE – The Warren County Christian School Lady Lions finished second in the New Penn Christian Conference tournament after defeating CCSI on Friday and falling to league champion Bethel Christian on Saturday.

Emma Marino led the way in the win over CCSI with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists. The Lady Lions also had 10 points, four rebounds and three blocks from Desirae Kerr while McKenna Phelps chipped in six points and four rebounds.

Marino had another big game against Bethel with seven points and five rebounds, but WCCS came up just short in a 24-17 loss. Rachel Brenner finished with six points and 10 rebounds while Kerr and Naomi Swartzbaugh had five and six rebounds, respectively.

The Lady Lions split the regular season with Bethel with five points being the difference in both contests.

“With two pretty evenly matched teams like this it came down to who capitalized on the other’s mistakes,” said WCCS coach Eric Swartzbaugh. “I’m really proud of the girls and everything they accomplished this season.”
