Trumbull’s career night lifts Ike girls to win

FRANKLIN Mallory Trumbull and the Eisenhower Knights had just about enough of their four-game losing streak, and Franklin just happened to be the team in the way Friday.

Behind a career-high 25 points from Trumbull, the Lady Knights earned a 46-27 Region 3 victory.

“The girls came out very focused, took control of the game and it allowed us to get a much-needed win,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue.

Trumbull, who has been playing well all season, had her best game against Franklin, pulling down nine rebounds, dishing out three assists and notching a pair of steals as well.

“She’s been doing it all season even in the game against Saegertown earlier in the week where we lost, she played very well,” Logue said.

Ike (6-5) came out of the gates quickly, as Logue alluded to, leading 16-8 after the first quarter and 30-15 at halftime.

Abby Lundmark also turned in another solid performance with seven points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Eisenhower, which moved back over .500 overall with the win, will look to keep it rolling Monday when they travel to Cochranton in another key Region 3 game.

BROCKWAY 40, SHEFFIELD 20

Poor shooting and turnovers doomed the Sheffield Lady Wolverines in their 40-20 loss to visiting Brockway Friday evening.

“We really struggled with the press this evening,” said Sheffield coach Brandon Troutman.

“I feel like we were patient to a fault at times, on other hand we had times when we forced some things when we shouldn’t have. The upside of it all though,” Troutman continued, “we were seeing things, trying to execute, but we just aren’t quite adjusted to the speed of the game, in terms of making decisions, but they are understanding things, which is a great thing for us.”

The defense was a strong point for Sheffield, allowing a season low 40 points. “We were able to check another goal off of our list tonight,” Troutman said.

Lexi Lyon, Emily Knowles, and Eliza Davidson were strong on the boards. “As a team we have been rebounding poorly this season,” Troutman added, “Lexi has had a strong streak of games on the boards, including tonight. Em and Eliza stepped up tonight as well. We did a good job of limiting second chance buckets because of their efforts.”

Lyon led Sheffield with nine points, Sierra Grubbs added four.

Sheffield, now 0-12, will travel to Eisenhower on Tuesday for a county clash.
