Lady Lions fall to Calvary Baptist

The Lady Lions fought tooth and nail against a tough Meadville Calvary Baptist team, but ultimately fell by a final score of 40-32 in New Penn Christain Conference action Saturday at WCCS.

“Our girls played probably their best game of the season but unfortunately they came up a little short,” said WCCS coach Eric Swartzbaugh. “The whole team played better defense today, but we have to give extra credit to Lydia Swartzbaugh, who covered their point guards out in the open floor for most of the game. Her tough defense slowed them down and caused turnovers throughout the game.”

Swartzbaugh also noted his team’s progress since the first meeting with Calvary Baptist, a game the Lady Lions lost by 23 points. On Saturday, WCCS went into the half tied and kept the game close throughout the third quarter.

The difference came at the foul line, where Calvary Baptist hit 9-of-11 shots in the second half compared to just 5-of-14 for the Lady Lions.

Desirae Kerr led the Christian School with eight points and eight rebounds, Rachel Brenner had six points and six rebounds, Rebekah Erdman had five points and three rebounds, Naomi Swartzbaugh had five points and five rebounds, and Emma Marino had six points, four rebounds and two assists.

Warren County Christian hosts Erie First Christian on Monday.
