Warren, Youngsville have strong showings; WCCS wins
CLARION Warren had a strong showing at the prestigious Clarion Tournament on Saturday.
They finished second in their pool during the ‘pool play’ portion, losing to Corry 23-25, 21-25 and beating Elk County Catholic 25-18, 25-19 and Keystone 25-21, 25-16 before splitting with Cochranton 25-24, 12-25.
As the sixth overall seed going into the playoffs, they lost to host Clarion, the 2013 Class A state champion, 25-18.
Leading Warren were Paige Wilson (26 kills, 3 blocks), Megan Wortman (15 kills, 1 block, 3 aces), Kaitlin Sedon (19 kills, 4 aces), Haley Nelson (12 kills, 4 aces), Haley Tuller (5 kills) and Ellie Lobdell (65 assists, 1 block, 2 aces).
The Lady Dragons return to action Tuesday at Franklin.
Youngsville competed in the Sheffield Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, falling to Union, Brockway and Ridgway before beating Forest Area 25-15, 25-18.
The advanced to the playoff portion of the event, falling to Port Allegany 25-14.
“We played much better this weekend,” said Youngsville coach Bev Fox. “We’re gaining experience and I hope that it will carry over into league play.”
Leading Youngsville were Elyssa Horn (17 digs, 12 kills), Allison Ishman (26 digs, 4 kills), Madison Fehlmen (26 digs) and Lydia Clark (11 digs, 11 assists).
The Lady Eagles have a busy week ahead, as they host Union City Tuesday, Tidioute Wednesday and travel to Saegertown on Thursday.
Warren County Christian School earned a 3-0 win over Erie First Friday, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-21.
Leading the winners were Kate Erdman, who had a team season-high 12 kills to go along with two blocks and one dig, Rachel Brenner (12 service points, 2 aces, 2 kills), Rebecca Crouse (3 service points, 1 assist), Desirae Kerr (10 service points, 4 assists, 1 block, 7 kills, 17 assists), Rebekah Erdman (3 service points, 2 digs), Allie Marino (1 service point, 1 ace), Emily Stowe (5 service points, 4 aces, 2 kills), Allison Weidner (2 service points, 1 assist, 2 blocks, 4 kills) and Kelsey Kelley (5 service points, 1 assist, 7 digs).
“We really controlled the game,” said WCCS coach Monica Kerr. “I thought Kate Erdman played a great game at the net tonight.”
The JV team was also a winner, 25-17, 25-11.
Lily Lauffenburger (3 kills) Eliana Beatty (1 kill), Rebekah Erdman (7 service points, 5 aces, 2 kills, 7 assists), McKenna Phelps (1 service point, 1 assists, 3 kills), Allie Marino (8 service points, 5 aces, 1 kill), Emma Marino (6 service points, 4 assists, 2 kills), Lydia Cox (6 service points) and Rachel Beatty (7 service points, 4 assists, 1 kill, 6 digs) paced the Lady Lions.
