Warren wins 3-2 on the road; Eisenhower sweeps

The Lady Wolverines suffered a sweep at the hands of Bradford, 22-25, 13-25, and 11-25 Tuesday at Sheffield High School.

The loss drops Sheffield’s overall record to 5-5 on the season.

“I thought we played really flat,” said Lady Wolverines’ coach Traci Vile. “It almost looked like the type of game you’d see at the beginning of the season, not the end.”

Brandy Rockwell had six kills and three blocks while Maddie Fiscus added five blocks for Sheffield, which visits St. Marys on Thursday.

Sam Collins, Mya Grubbs, and Claire Pierson each had five service points in a 23-25, 22-25 junior varsity loss.

WARREN 3, TITUSVILLE 2

TITUSVILLE – Warren grinded out a tough road win over Titusville, three sets to two, in a Region 5 match on Tuesday.

After dropping the first set 14-25, the Lady Dragons rebounded with 25-8 and 25-13 wins in the second and third games. The Rockets answered with an 18-25 win in set number four before Warren put the match away with a 15-11 victory in the deciding game.

“We did a nice job turning the match around after a bad first game, playing very well in games two and three,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “Kaitlin Sedon picked us up with her serve again and the offense was much better as everyone got involved in the attack. Megan Wortman, Paige Wilson, Jen Daugharthy and Haley Tuller all had nice swings and controlled the net with excellent blocking. Ashley Barker once again did a very good job running the offense. After a tough game four we played good defense and served well in game five led by Bailey Dilks and Teah Bines. It was an important region win on the road.”

Wilson had 13 kills, 10 digs, three blocks, and two aces to lead the Lady Dragons. Daugharthy had eight kills, Sedon had seven aces, Barker had 31 assists, Bines had 24 digs, and Dilks had 15 digs and six aces.

Warren is back on the road Thursday, visiting Oil City in another Region 5 match.

EISENHOWER 3, FOREST AREA 0

TIONESTA – Eisenhower won its second match of the season in a non-region sweep of Forest Area Tuesday, 25-12, 25-8, and 25-20.

“We were able to set up a lot more than usual,” said Ike coach Ashlee Sprandle. “It wasn’t an impressive game overall, (Forest) has a lot to work on. I’m happy that we won but I’ve seen them play better than this and lose.”

Mallory Trumbull – a setter – led the Lady Knights with five kills to go along with three digs and four aces. Holly Chapman added four digs, one ace, and three kills, and Aysia Peters had four kills.

Eisenhower hosts Maplewood in a Region 3 match on Thursday. The Tigers are a perfect 10-0 and are the No. 5 team in the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class A state rankings.
