McDowell beats Warren with late goal

Warren’s boys soccer team had four tough games in eight days, culminating on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to visiting McDowell at War Memorial Field.

McDowell’s Corey Bessetti opened the scoring in the first half before Quinn Boger tied it at 1-1 on an assist from Bryce Bauer.

“Most of the second half went without any scoring until with just under three minutes left in the game,” said Warren coach Tom Harrington. “It was a nice shot; both teams fought hard. It wasn’t what I would consider one of our best games, (but) we are quite run down. We played four tough teams in eight days.

“They had possession on us,” said Harrington, “but it was a hard-fought game and both teams played hard. They defense really had their hands full, and did a great job. Unfortunately, too much of the time they were the ones doing the battling.”

McDowell outshot Warren, 20-9, with Dragon goalie Clark Eason saving 20 shots.

“We looked pretty good on our corners and free kicks, but other than that we didn’t get any good shots on goal. Bryce Bauer made some good corners and free kicks.”

Warren hosts Corry in a Region 4 match at 5 p.m. Monday.

Warren lost the junior varsity match to McDowell, 5-0, on Saturday.
