Warren soccer co-op agreement with Sheffield approved by board

One of the Warren County School District board of directors primary functions is to provide students with opportunities.

A co-operative agreement that will allow students from Sheffield Area Middle High School to play both boys and girls soccer at Warren Area High School meets that objective.

The agreement was approved by the school board on Monday night.

According to the application submitted to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) by Warren Area High School, “Sheffield High School has a student who would like to play soccer and Sheffield does not have a team.”

While Warren’s application only refers to girls soccer, Sheffield’s application, and the board’s approved motion, cover both boys and girls.

Phil Knapp, supervisor of district-wide athletics and co-curricular activities, said on Wednesday that the agreement will not bring any classification changes to WAHS and reiterated that the agreement will cover both the boys and girls teams.

He said that only half of a cooperating school’s population is counted as part of the merger. The combined male enrollment at SAMHS, in grades 9-11, is 66 and female stands at 64, according to Sheffield’s application.
