The Warren boys’ tennis team took advantage of the nice weather Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of Region 2 opponents Titusville and Rocky Grove at Betts Park, both by scores of 5-0.

Top singles players Nate Sandberg and Ben Auzou won both of their matches by 6-0, 6-0 counts to remain undefeated on the year.

“Both of these boys are playing good tennis,” said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch. “Both are 8-0 on the season and they are cruising along.”

Noah Colvin completed the singles sweep against Titusville with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Harland Kester.

In top doubles action, juniors Quinn Boger and Bryce Bauer defeated Devon Pettit and Cameron Daugherty 6-3, 6-1. Max Gross and Clark Eason won 6-1, 6-1 in their match to close out the win.

“Both doubles pairs played better today,” said assistant coach John Parroccini.

In exhibition play, the doubles pairs of Dylan Hansen and Darren Liu won 8-3, Steffen Blair and Neil Morrison won 8-2, and Max Pierson won a singles match over Titusville’s number three player.

Blair took over the third singles spot in the match against Rocky Grove, defeating the Orioles’ Will Hoffman by a count of 6-1, 6-2.

Eric Cecco and Jason Waterfield picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win in top doubles, and Pierson and Liu teamed up to win 6-0, 6-0 in their varsity debut.

Exhibition doubles saw Nick Pellegrino and Derek Hanlin win 8-0, Hansen and Mason Mohney won 8-3, and Gross and Christian Olsen won 8-0.

“Today was outstanding and remarkable for a variety of reasons,” said Bartsch. “This is the first time we have played two home matches on the same day. We’ve played doubleheaders in the past, but they were always on the road. And, we were able to play a twelve different Dragons in the starting line-up today. All of the boys who were at the match (22 in all) were afforded the opportunity to play either as a starter or in exhibition play today.”

The Dragons are now 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in the first half of Region 2 play. The Dragons will travel to Harbor Creek on Monday to play the Huskies for an 11 a.m. start.
