HARBORCREEK – On the strength of track finishes and the long jump, Warren’s boys finished second out of 24 teams at Saturday’s Harbor Creek Invitational.

Warren had four first-place finishes, including a meet record by the 1,600-meter relay standouts of Kyle Kulka, Luke Wortman, Ryan Shattuck and Tanner Rosenberg (3:32.46, edging Lakeview’s 3:32.87).

Rosenberg and Wortman finished 1-2 in the 400 in 51.65 seconds and 51.68, respectively, and Kulka and Ryan Gorgacz were 1-2 in the long jump. Kulka jumped 20 feet-9 3/4 inches to beat Gorgacz’s 20-1/4.

Wortman won the 300 hurdles in 41.51, and Shattuck was third in the event in 43.24. Shattuck was also third in the 110 hurdles in 16.15 seconds.

Warren freshman Blake Ristau was among the top eight in the 3,200 in 10:51.55.

The Lady Dragons also had top-eight individual finishes, including two in the javelin. D.J. Hahn was fourth with a throw of 107 feet, three inches, and Claudia Olson eighth in 99-11.

Lindsay Onuffer finished seventh in the 100 hurdles in 17.36 seconds, Ashley Barker eighth in the long jump in 15-1 3/4, and the 1,600 relay team was eighth.

Kane Invitational

KANE – At the 15-team Kane Invitational, Sheffield’s Adam Higby won the high jump in 5-10 and was third in the triple jump at 39-8 1/4 among a number of Wolverines, Eisenhower Knights and Youngsville Eagles competing.

Youngsville’s Nathan Wilcox also stood out with a third place in shot at 40-4 1/2, fifth in discus at 116-11, and third in javelin at 151-5.

Other point-scorers in the boys meet included:

Eisenhower’s Owen Engstrom, fifth in the 100 in 12.37, Tim Lange fifth in the 300 hurdles in 44.12, and Randy Buchanan fifth in the 400 at 55.91; Youngsville’s Jacob Lauffenburger, sixth in the 200 in 25.16, Solomon Clark, fourth in the 400 in 55.80 and Lauffenburger sixth in 56.15, Andy Lalwani sixth in the 110 hurdles in 18.19, and the Eagles’ 4×100 team sixth in 48.73.

“It was nice to get a chance to see what Eisenhower has,” said Youngsville coach Jeff Manelick. “And the guys have a lot to be confident about, not just in Tuesday’s meet (at Eisenhower), but also for the season.”

In the girls’ meet, Sheffield’s Jen Isenberg came back from injury to finish second in the javelin at 118-9, and Youngsville’s Piper Olsen had a good day, individually and in a relay. Olsen was second in the 3,200 in 12:48.22, just ahead of teammate Brooklyn Messinger, who was third in 12:55.11 in district-qualifying time. Olsen was also sixth in the 1,600 in 5:57.95.

Eisenhower’s Julia Bauer was ahead of Olsen, finishing fifth in the 1,600 in 5:50.76, and was sixth in the 800 in 2:35.71. Ike teammate Emily McJunkin was fourth in the high jump in 4-8, and Tiffany Work was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 18.10.

“I thought we definitely had a good day – good for us leading into Tuesday (vs. Youngsville at Eisenhower High School); good competition over there – Johnsonburg is a really tough team. They just kind of ran away with it,” said Eisenhower girls coach Mike Logue.

Logue said Bauer qualified for districts in both races she placed in and was on both relays than finished fifth for Eisenhower (1,600 and 3,200).

Youngsville’s Mallory Eastman finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.63, and sixth in the 300 hurdles in 52.70, both district-qualifying times.

Youngsville’s and Eisenhower’s relays placed in the 4×400 and 4×800.

“It was a good day for the girls that have experience and I also took some girls that needed experience,” said Youngsville girls coach John Victor.
