Warren is 3-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 7 after a doubleheader sweep of Mercyhurst Prep on Saturday at the Farm Colony Complex.

Warren’s Alex Bupp struck out 10 in a five-inning, 10-0 one-hit win in the first game, and Bupp and Meghan Loutzenhiser combined for nine strikeouts in an 18-0 win in the second game.

Warren combined for 36 hits in the sweep, including a 7-for-8 day from leadoff hitter Kaitlin Ishman, who had two homers in the opener and two triples in the second game.

In the 18-0 win, Ishman, Paige Wilson and Loutzenhiser were each 4-for-4. Wilson homered and had three RBI and Loutzenhiser had two doubles, two triples and five RBI. Bupp and Lauren Frazier had three hits each in the nightcap.

Second baseman Megan Wortman had four hits in the two games.

“We talked about putting Thursday (loss to McDowell) behind us and moving forward,” said Warren coach Mark Bupp. “We were looking to get off to a great start and Ish (Kaitlin Ishman) obviously provided that (lead-off homer in first game). We were able to follow that up with some timely hitting, which we didn’t have the other day. Overall, we were very pleased with the way the first game went.

“In the second game, Ish again gave us a great start and Meghan Loutzenhiser had a great game all-around… It was nice to see (Lauren Frazier) have a nice day at the plate and some of the younger kids had an opportunity (for playing time).”

Maddie Loutzenhiser was 4-for-4 and was the winning pitcher in the junior varsity game. Wortman added two more hits – for a total of six on the day. Taige Honhart was 3-for-4 in the win.
