Dragons stay unbeaten with Johnsonburg sweep

JOHNSONBURG – With cool, but clear and dry weather, the Warren Dragon boys traveled to Johnsonburg on Wednesday afternoon and defeated the Rams by a 9-0 score.

Using the District 9 format of five singles and four doubles matches, Warren expanded the lineup and got 13 players into action in the sweep.

In top singles, Nate Sandberg improved his singles record to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mason Walters.

Ben Auzou, also 6-0, defeated Nate Field by the same scores.

Sean McGuinness scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles over Tyler Martonik.

Tristan Boger defeated Brendon Higdon, 6-0, 6-1.

Completing the singles sweep was sophomore Noah Colvin as he picked up a neat 6-0, 6-1 win over Brandon Dauber.

“Our singles players were efficient today,” said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch.

In doubles, the top Dragon pair of Bryce Bauer and Quinn Boger won by an 8-5 count.

Steffen Blair and senior Neil Morrison cruised to an 8-3 win at second doubles.

Max Gross and Clark Eason cruised, 8-0.

The doubles sweep was completed by Eric Cecco and Jason Waterfield with an 8-1 win to complete the sweep.

“Our doubles pairs performed okay today,” said Bartsch. “They will have to play better tomorrow.”

The Dragons are now 6-0 on the season. Due to the bad weather in the past week, the Dragons will host a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at the Betts Courts. The first match will feature the Dragons with Titusville starting at 1 p.m. The second match will have the Dragons playing Rocky Grove at 3:30 p.m.

“Both matches are region matches and are make-ups from recent rain-outs,” said Bartsch. “The Dragons last played a doubleheader back in the spring of 1999. Both match lineups will be new and varied due to many of our starters being away on Easter break.”
