Dragons remain undefeated with win over Huskies

HARBORCREEK-Warren swept the host Harbor Creek Huskies in non-region boys’ tennis action on Monday, improving to 9-0 on the year with the 5-0, straight-set win.

Leading the way for the Dragons in top singles was junior Nate Sandberg who won the first set in a tiebreak over Harbor Creek’s Kyle Thomas, 7-6 (7-3).

The second set saw “Nate become more aggressive and take control of the points 6-3,” said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch. “This was a good match-up for Nate and it will prepare him for more tough matches in the next few weeks.”

Ben Auzou defeated Eric Campbell, 6-1, 6-3, and Sean McGuinness took control in the third singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jacob Van Slyke.

In singles play this season, Sandberg and Auzou are each 9-0 and McGuinness is 6-1.

The sophomore duo of Tristan Boger and Noah Colvin claimed a win in the top doubles match over Harbor Creek, winning a 6-4 first set and a 7-6 (8-6) tiebreak in set number two.

“This was a highly competitive match,” said assistant coach Tim Sandberg. “Our guys were just a bit more steady and had a better game plan.”

Quinn Boger and Bryce Bauer completed the sweep in second doubles with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

In exhibition doubles play, the pairs of Steffen Blair and Dylan Hansen, Clark Eason and Nick Pellegrino, Alex Sherman and Jason Waterfield, and Eric Cecco and Max Pierson earned convincing wins over the Huskies.

Darren Liu and Ryan McGuinness picked up proset victories in their exhibition singles debut.

Warren (9-0 overall, 3-0 in Region 2) hosts Corry in a region match Wednesday at the Betts Park Courts. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
