ST. MARYS-The Warren Girls Majors All-Star team jumped out to a quick start in the 2014 season with a 7-2 win over St. Marys on Monday.
Julia Lobdell settled in after a two-out error resulted in a pair of runs for St. Marys in the top of the first. Lobdell went on to complete a one-hitter with eight strikeouts as the winning pitcher.
Warren - which won the coin toss for home field advantage - struck in the bottom of the third when Lobdell doubled home Alexis Nyquist, who singled and stole second to lead off the inning. Celia Chase followed with a double of her own that scored Lobdell, and Gracie Wood added another with an RBI triple before coming in on Kiersten Hoffman's sacrifice fly.
Alex Neureiter gave Warren a spark in the fifth when a hard hit ball was misplayed by the St. Marys second baseman. Chase came through with another run scoring double to make it 5-2, and Wood drove in one before scoring on another St. Marys defensive miscue.
Warren's top four hitters - Nyquist, Lobdell, Chase, and Wood - each had two hits in the winning effort. Nyquist accounted for six outs from her shortstop position including a running play into center field that ended the game.
Warren returns to action against Bradford Wednesday at the Farm Colony's Hawbaker Field.
