American Legion Post 758 Awards
Recently the American Legion Post 758 presented awards to those winning students who submitted essays on Americanism. The Christian group, The Flock, which has students from Youngsville High School and Eisenhower Middle/High School, provided music for the EMHS Baccalaureate Service on June 8. The Flock is a part of the Teen Gathering Group at Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church.

On Friday, June 6, Eisenhower held the scholarship and awards ceremony.
The AMVETS Post 50 Scholarship was presented to Steven Haner and Brooke Stanton. AMVETS Post 50 Auxiliary Scholarship was presented to Jenna Jordan. DAR Good Citizenship award went to Jessica McCool. EMHS Football Booster Scholarship was presented to Alex Johnson, Robert Wilston, Carter Farrell and Jonathan Shelton. The EMHS Mat Club Wrestling Scholarship was presented to Levi Stanko.
The EMHS Bantastic Booster Valerie Cracker Scholarship went to Christina Brunecz and James Palmer. Jamestown Business College Academic Progress Award went to Marion Sherer. Jamestown Business College John August Johnson Award was presented to Alyssa Kotar and Corinne VanEvery. Jamestown Business College Scholar of Excellence award was presented to Alyssa Kotar. The John Wesley Memorial Scholarship went to Jessica McCool and Alex Johnson.
The K. William Bill Burleigh Memorial Academic Basketball Trophy was presented to Carter Farrell.
The Kiwanis Club Scholarship went to Danielle Bradish and Jessica McCool. The Melissa Courtney Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Ashley Barnett and Devin Sharp.
The Mary Passinger Scholarship for Drama was awarded to Christina Brunecz. The Odd Fellows of Western PA award went to Alyssa Kotar.
Russell Volunteer Fire Department Scholarship was presented to Devin Sharp and Jessalyn Peterson.
The Sugar Grove American Legion Post 758 Scholarship was awarded to Jonathan Shelton, Charleigh Jo Smith and Brooke Stanton. The Sons of American Legion Post 758 College Scholarship was presented to Brooke Stanton. The Sons of American Legion Post 758 Technical Scholarship went to Steven Haner.
The Timothy Walker Memorial Scholarship was presented to Brooke Stanton. The Travis Godden Memorial Scholarship was given to Robert Wilston and Brooke Stanton. The Travis Stenstrom Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jessica McCool.
US Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award went to Carter Farrell and Brooke Stanton. US Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence went to Jessayln Peterson. US Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award went to Jessica McCool.
The W.C. Victim Impact Panel Scholarship was presented to Danielle Bradish. The W.C.C.C. Community Foundation Scholarship went to Devin Sharp. The Warren County 4-H Development Fund Scholarship went to Cody McMillen. The Warren County Historical Award for Achievement in History was presented to Nicole Ewer. The Eisenhower faculty presented Outstanding Senior Achievement Awards to Mallory Schutt for Excellence in Biology. Christian Brunecz for Excellence in Drama, Charleigh Jo Smith for Excellence in English, Jessalyn Peterson for Excellence in Instrumental Music, Brooke Stanton and Jessica McCool for Excellence in Journalism, Charleigh Jo Smith for Excellence in Mathematics, Shane Arford for Excellence in Physical Education, Nicole Ewer for Excellence in Spanish, Shelby Willis for Excellence in Vocal Music, and The Yearbook Editors Award went to Charleigh Jo Smith and Jessica McCool. Additional awards from the graduation ceremony will be listed here on June 20th.
American Legion Post 758 Awards
The American Legion Post 758 recently presented their Annual Americanism Essay Awards at the Post Home during a ceremony. Classes are orgainized according to age. The winners were Class One winners were Jacob Stearns First Place, Maya Swanson-Second Place, and Gannon Jaquay Third Place. Class Two winners were Owen Trumbull First Place, Ellie Strausser Second Place, and Hope Hefright Third Place. The Class Three winner was Josef Bauer First Place. Class Four winners were Mitchyl Hedman First Place, Lakia Hedman- Second Place, and Jack Reynolds- Third Place. The Class Five winner was Julia Bauer First Place. Julia was the winner in the Junior/Senior Class category and we will post her complete winning essay on Americanism here for the July 4 Sugar Grove Community News.
The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Please note that the United Methodist Church and the Mission Covenant Church will be taking a summer break from community lunches during June, July and August. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.
The Chandlers Valley Community Center, a nonprofit organization, at 6250 Jackson Run Road will have a Flea Market every third Saturday of the month through Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. At this time, there are openings for vendors. A 10 x 10 space will be $10 and a 20 x 20 space will be $15. Vendors will be seen clearly from traffic traveling both directions on Jackson Run Road. Vendors will be set up in the Chandlers Valley ball field. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or you would like more information on the event, you can contact Marlene Falconer at 489-3760.

The Chandlers Valley Community Center is looking for vendors for the upcoming fall Sportsmen's Challenge. The challenge will take place on Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. This event will include the people pull, judged pie baking contest, pie auction, judged photo contest, children's games and events, a Chinese auction, the popular lawn mower obstacle course, corn hole tournament, sportsmen's challenge, pre-1965 farm tractor cruise in, craft vendors, food vendors, flea market, and more.

Day Camp has started. The Camp started on Thursday, June 12th. The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Summer Day Camp Program is now taking registrations for the coming 2014 summer. The Day Camp offers different options - full-time, part-time, or drop-in day care services or weekly camp enrollment. The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church has been granted a license by the State of Pennsylvania for day care services. The Summer Day Camp facilities, program, and staff meet all state regulations for a licensed day care and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, handicap, ancestry, national origin, age, or sex.
The camp is now certified in New York State and can take subsidized children from Chautauqua County. Assistance to defray the daily fees of the Summer Day Camp Program is available through the Subsidized Child Day Care Program in Pennsylvania. Contact the Economic Opportunities Council of Warren County at 726-1361.
The facility will be open Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m., from June through August. If you would like more information on the Summer Day Program or on the Subsidization Program, please call the church office at 489-3105.
The Flea Market at the Chandlers Valley Ball Field will be happening on June 21 from 8 a.m. 3 p.m. For information on being a vendor, contact 489-3760. There will be food for sale for all the hungry shoppers and plenty of bargains to buy. The ball field is located on the corner of Jackson Run and Brown Hill Road in Chandlers Valley. Proceeds will go to benefit the Chandlers Valley Community.
Concert in the Valley
Dan Schall will be in concert June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church on Jackson Run in Chandlers Valley. Light refreshments will follow the concert.
