The 12th annual Warren General Hospital Christmas Basket Contest and Raffle is taking place Dec. 9-13 in the hospital outpatient lobby. One of the biggest fund raisers for the hospital auxiliary, this contest challenges hospital departments to come up with creative basket themes and, with generous contributions from area businesses and the department members themselves, put together outrageous and over-the-top gift baskets.
This year there are more entries than ever before, with 13 different hospital related groups indicating an interest in participating: Imaging Department with a basket entitled "OOOHHH Christmas Tree"; Hospice with "Olive" the other Reindeer; WGH Auxiliary Board with "Double your Pleasure"; the Window Box with "Snowmen"; Environmental Services with a basket called "Disney"; Urology with "Spirits of Urology"; WGH Administration/ Board Of Directors with "New Years Resolutions"; H.I.S Department with a "Couch Potato" basket; AFSCME with "Toasting the Holiday"; Fiscal Service & Patient Accounts with "Deck the Lawn"; Rehab Works with "Wildlife Treats"; 3C Floor with a "Camping" theme basket; and ER/Outpatient with a secret basket.
Everyone is keeping their basket contents secret until start time today, but if this season is similiar to past years, expect to see big screen TVS, computers, I-Pads, sports equipment, gift certificates, kitchen appliances, toy boxes full of games, lottery tickets, fully decorated Christmas trees and other fabulous over-the-top "baskets."

Tickets are $1 and will be only sold in the WGH outpatient lobby from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. until noon Friday, Dec. 13. The tickets will be counted to determine the "winning," department and the drawing for the baskets will take place at 2 p.m. Friday. Buy your tickets (bring address labels to save time writing your name and address on multiple tickets) and vote for the best basket, the basket you would like to take home. Take a chance on this out-of-this-world Christmas present and support a good cause, the Warren General Hospital Auxiliary.
