Norris K. Freeborough, 88, of 701 Rouse Avenue (a resident of The Rouse Estates in Youngsville) and formerly of Pittsfield, PA, passed away Saturday, July 27th, at Warren General Hospital.
Norris was born in Youngsville, PA on November 28, 1924, a son of the late F. Mae (Mead) and R. Merrill Freeborough. Norris was a member of 2 classes of Youngsville High School, the class of 1944 and also the class of 1946 due to the war. He served from 1943 1946 with Cannon Company 180th Infantry 45th Division in Italy, France and Germany during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct, WWII Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars and 1 bronze arrowhead.
He was the widower of Evelyn (Marsh) Freeborough, his wife of 41 years who preceded him in death in 1991, and whom he married April 21, 1950 in Falconer, NY. Norris was retired from the National Forge Company in Irvine after 38 years of service in the melting department. He was a life member of the Brokenstraw Fish and Game Club, Upper Allegheny Muzzle Loaders, the VFW Post 53 in Jamestown, HalgrenWilcox Post 658 of the American Legion of Youngsville, the Youngsville Lions Club, the National Rifle Association, Pennsylvania Federation of Muzzle Loaders, National Muzzle Loaders, Youngsville Bowling League, and the National Forge Bowling League. He was a member of the Pittsfield Horseshoe League. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes at the Suites at the Rouse. He loved taking care of his blueberry bushes. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are a Daughter Diana (Daniel) L. Richer, of Blue Bell, PA; a Daughter, Donna (Thomas) S. Putnam, of Kennedy, NY; a Son, Boyd M. Freeborough, CDR USN (RET) and his wife, Rita of Sugar Grove, PA; and a Son, Brian (Larry Buzeyn) K. Freeborough, of Phoenix, AZ; 4 grandsons, Aaron (Joni) M. Richer of Alexandria, VA, Benjamin A. (Julieann) Richer of Bridgeport, PA, Christopher M. (Katherine) Putnam of Camp Hill, PA, Timothy J. Putnam of Hendersonville, NC; 2 greatgranchildren, Evelyn Rose Richer and Molly Ann Richer both of Bridgeport, PA; 2 sisterinlaws, Kay Freeborough of Warren and Laura Freeborough of Youngsville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Harry, Glen, Lysle, Roy, Paul, and Dale Freeborough; 2 sisters, Nina Haight Patchen and Ruth Gaghan.
Friends are also invited to call on Tuesday from 24 & 68 pm at McKinney Funeral Home in Youngsville and also on Wednesday from 1011 am at which time a funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 31st, with Rev. Marcus Briggs officiating. Graveside Services will be held in Warren County Memorial Park with full military honors.
