The Warren Dragons' bid for their second straight victory fell short Monday afternoon with an 8-2 loss to visiting DuBois at Old Legion in North Warren.
The Dragons were doomed by a pair of four-run innings and couldn't mount much offense against DuBois starter Ian Yount. Yount allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings of work to earn the win for the Beavers.
"They're a good team. Last time we played them they were pretty young and we were older. Now they're older and we're young," said Warren coach Rick Eaton. "I think our guys grew a little during the game. Playing teams like Saint Marys and DuBois gives us a good start for our region schedule."

Turning on it
Warren’s Todd Fasenmyer turns on a pitch and makes solid contact during Monday’s non-league game with DuBois at Old Legion Field in North Warren. The Dragons suffered an 8-2 setback and fell to 1-2 on the young 2013 season. The defending District 10 Class AAA?champions return to action Wednesday when they travel to Edinboro for a showdown with the General?McLane Lancers.
Warren was able to jump on the board in the first inning thanks to some heads up base running by courtesy runner Ryan Gustafson. After a single by catcher Todd Fasenmyer, Gustafson entered the game and immediately took off for second base. The throw skipped past both the DuBois shortstop and centerfielder as Gustafson came all the way around to score and put the Dragons up 1-0.
That lead would be short lived as the Beavers answered back with a big four-run second inning and followed that up with another four-spot in the third.
Fasenmyer singled home designated hitter Eddie Ord for another Dragons run in the bottom of the third, but Yount was able to escape a bases loaded jam with a double play to end the inning and the Warren threat.

Warren was unable to string together hits the rest of the way while the two teams battled through four scoreless innings and DuBois left with the win.
Fasenmyer accounted for three of Warren's five hits on the day as well as the team's only RBI. Ord and Tanner Stanz added the other hits for the Dragons who fall to 1-2 with the loss.
Junior pitcher Tyler Bradley took the loss on the mound for the Dragons, going two and one-third innings before relievers Matt Hultquist and Tanner Teconchuck combined to finish the game.
The Dragons will look to bounce back and even up their record Wednesday when they travel to Edinboro to take on General McLane. The game with the Lancers is the region opener for Warren.
Warren was defeated 10-7 in the junior varsity contest. John White tripled and Ryan Gustafson, Derek Reagle and Mark Reiff all doubled in defeat for the Dragons.
