The City of Warren is accepting applications from persons interested in serving on the newly-created Uniform Construction Code Joint Board of Appeals.
Interested and qualified residents of Warren plus Brokenstraw, Glade, Mead, Pine Grove and Pleasant townships and Clarendon and Sheffield boroughs should submit resumes to the City of Warren.
The five-member board will hear and rule on appeals, requests for variances, and requests for time extensions filed on decisions made by the building code official while enforcing the Pennsylvania UCC.
According to Building Code Officer Mary Ann Nau, the city is looking for people willing to volunteer their time.
"It's not a board that is frequently activated," Nau noted. "The only time that board comes into play is if there is an appeal to the decision of the code official. There have only been two appeals in the last four years."
The Board of Appeals will consist of five individuals, one from each of the following professions or disciplines:
Registered design professional who is a registered architect; or a builder or superintendent of building construction with at least ten years experience, five of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.
Registered design professional with structural engineering or architectural experience.
Registered design professional with mechanical or plumbing engineering experience; or a mechanical or plumbing contractor with at least ten years of experience, five of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.
Registered design professional with electrical engineering experience; or an electrical contractor with at least ten years experience, five of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.
Registered design professional with fire protection engineering experience; or a fire protection contractor with at least ten years experience, five of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.
Two alternate members will also be appointed, who will be called on by the board chairman to hear appeals during the absence or disqualification of a member. Alternate members shall possess the qualifications required for board membership, and shall be appointed for five years or until a successor has been appointed.
"The expertise that you need to hear the appeals is the most important thing," added Nau.
Resumes can be submitted by mail to City of Warren, 318 W. Third Ave., Warren, Pa., 16365 or by email to email@example.com.
