Donation to library
The AMVETS Post #50 Ladies Auxiliary President Michelle Williams presented a donation to Sugar Grove Librarian Assistant Leslie LaBarte this week. The proceeds from their bake sale will help with exciting upcoming events happening at the local library.
Food Pantry donation
The AMVETS Post #50 Commander Jeff VanArsdale recently presented a check to the Sugar Grove Food Pantry Pastor Billy Hughes to help purchase supplies for the pantry. The Local food pantry has grown significantly in the past few years.
The Community World Day of Prayer Service will be held this evening. Local churches come together on this day and join in prayer. The theme this year is "I was a stranger and you welcomed me." This year the service will be held at the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church beginning at 7:30 p.m. Special speakers are John and Glenna Peterson from Chandlers Valley talking about their recent mission trip to Tanzania.
Special music will be provided by John Landin from the Mission Covenant Church. Other portions of the service will be provided by the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church, The First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Grove, the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, and the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church.
We Are Bookin'
The Sugar Grove Free Library will hold its 3rd Annual We are Bookin' 5K and 1-mile fun race on Saturday, April 13. The race will begin and end at the Sugar Grove Free Library with a start time of 10 a.m. Registration is open now for anyone wishing to take part in the event. Forms can be obtained at the Sugar Grove Free Library.
The age groups for the event will be 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 plus. The first male and female overall winners and the top three male and female runners in each age group will be awarded No awards will be presented in the fun run/walk but all those under 12 will receive a participation certificate or ribbon. The cost to take part in the 5K is $15 if you register on or before April 5th. After that date the cost will be $20. The cost to take part in the 1 mile fun run/walk is $10 if you register on or before April 5th. After that the cost will be $15. There will be event day registration at the Library from 9-9:30 a.m. T-Shirts are guaranteed for all those who register before March 30.
All others will receive T-shirts as supplies last. All entry forms can be submitted to the Sugar Grove Free Library, P.O. Box 313, 22 Harmon Street, Sugar Grove 16350. Proceeds from the AMVETS Auxiliary Bake Sale were raised to help benefit upcoming events at the library. The Sugar Grove Library has scheduled it's 5K and 1 mile race for Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m., starting and ending at the library.
Another upcoming event at the Library will be the "First Annual Sugar Grove Library Hunger Games with a twist". The event will benefit both the library and help replenish the area food banks; along with raise awareness of the indispensable demand for nonprofit organizations and the vital role they continue to fill in our community. The Sugar Grove Area has two volunteer organizations helping to distribute food to people in out local area. First is the Local Food Pantry which is located at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. Numerous individuals and organizations donate to keep the pantry filled. The pantry has grown significantly over the past two years. Open distribution is on selected Wednesday evenings during the month. For a schedule of times the pantry is open or for more information on the local pantry anyone can call the office at the Free Methodist Church at 489-3105. The second food distribution that happens for the Sugar Grove residents is the Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry. That event is scheduled on Saturdays at the Free Methodist Church and occurs every 6 weeks.
The Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry distribution will be held in Sugar Grove at the Free Methodist Church on Saturday, March 2. Doors will open at 8 a.m. Distribution will begin at approximately 10 a.m. once the food arrives and volunteers have sorted products.
The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend one of the area Community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the 1st Friday at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run Road, on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town and on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.
