The Warren Public Library recently hosted its fifth Annual Soup Recipe Contest in celebration of National Soup Month in January.
Participants could enter a maximum of three recipes which had to be prepared, brought to the library and accompanied by a written copy of the recipe.
On Monday, a panel of ten judges sampled the variety of soups before narrowing it down to the top three and declaring Aaron Stover the winner for his roasted chicken gumbo.
In second place was Brittany Anderson's loaded red potato and garlic soup.
In third place was Stover's smoked pork and chorizo white bean chili.
Judges said Linda Schwone of Russell also submitted a notable golden cream soup.
The creators of the top three recipes were awarded Visa gift cards.
This year's judges included Bette McAmbley, who has judged for several years, and her guest judge Jennifer Rossey. Other judges were library employees Susan Slater, Patty Sherbondy, Marti Swanson, Dale Aikens, Sandi Tudor, Kelli Knapp, Marilyn Edmiston and Kelly Wood.
Stover's smoked pork and chorizo white bean chili and roasted chicken gumbo as well as Anderson' loaded red potato and garlic soup will be served in the Slater Room on the third floor of the library on Monday, Jan. 28, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The public is invited and donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of the soup luncheon.
Recipe booklets containing all of the recipes submitted in this year's contest will be available at the library for a small charge.
