Vintage Warren: History in Photos

December 27, 2012
The Times Observer

The Market Street Plaza as it appeared in 1962. Bilo now occupies the site where the Loblaws Market was located. Loblaws closed in 1982 and Thorne's Super Duper that had originally been across the parking lot moved into the building in 1985. The name changed to Thorne's Bi-Lo and major renovations have occurred several times since then. All the houses seen in this photo have been razed for expansion of the store. Prior to becoming a parking lot, the old mill race ran through this area creating "The Island," the hub of Warren's earliest industries.
