The 11th annual Warren General Hospital Christmas Basket Contest and Raffle is taking place Dec. 10-14 in the hospital outpatient lobby. One of the biggest fund raisers for the hospital auxiliary, this contest challenges the different departments from the hospital to come up with creative basket themes and, with generous contributions from area businesses and the department members themselves, put together the most outrageous and over-the-top gift baskets ever.
Fifteen different hospital related groups have indicated they wish to participate: patient accounts/fiscal services; the Warren Medical Group; the Window Box Gift Shop; Rehabworks; imaging department; the Emergency Care Center/Outpatient Department; the WGH Auxiliary Board; the WGH Board of Directors/Administration; 3B/IMSAC; Hospice; 3C/Deerfield Behavior Health; the housekeeping department; the H.I.S. Department; the MCH Department and UPMC Health Plan. Everyone is keeping their themes secret until start time on Monday, but if this season is similar to past years, expect to see big screen TVs, computers, I-Pads, freezers full of meat, gift certificates, kitchen appliances, toy boxes full of games, fully decorated Christmas trees and other fabulous over-the-top "baskets."
Tickets are $1 and will only be sold in the WGH outpatient lobby from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 10-11; from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 13-14;and from 7 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 14. Tickets will be counted to determine the "winning" department, and the drawing for the baskets will take place immediately following. Buy your tickets (bring address labels to save time writing your name and address on multiple tickets) and vote for the best basket, the basket you would like to take home. Take a chance on a basket and support a good cause, the Warren General Hospital Auxiliary.
