Occasionally a golfer will take his eye off the ball, wind up a mighty swing and...whiff.
"Practice swing," is often announced in such situations, followed by some sniggering by the balance of the foursome.
The Warren County Commissioners whiffed on Wednesday when they unanimously approved an amendment to the county zoning ordinance that would remove Farmington Township from its jurisdiction.
At some point in the future they will have to take another swing.
According to the laws governing how ordinances are introduced, voted on, and sometimes approved, a public comment period is required before the second part takes place. The commissioners were apparently under the impression that the session they held in Farmington Township a week ago was sufficient to satisfy that requirement.
Following a suggestion that they just get it over with, they cast their votes.
All this means is the vote will have to be taken again.
But, Wednesday's miscue at least gives the folks in Farmington Township a pretty good idea of how the commissioners feel about the matter.
