Our Opinion: In reverse

Among the most blatantly political of President Barack Obama’s actions has been blocking construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Upon taking office, President-elect Donald Trump should change that.

Designed to bring Canadian oil to the United States, the pipeline has been under review for seven years by Obama’s administration.

Unable to find any environmental reason to hold Keystone XL up, Obama simply refused to grant the necessary U.S. permits.

That played well among radical environmentalists. But it deprived Americans of a cheap, reliable source of oil, contributing to our reliance on petroleum from overseas.

Trump has vowed to reverse many of the White House’s actions relating to energy.

He should announce publicly that he will allow Keystone XL to proceed, so the company behind the project can begin getting it underway.
