7 banned words
Dear Editor,
For those of us old enough to remember George Carlin’s seven words you could not say on television, we now have a more pernicious list handed down by my president.
The following words are not to be used in official Center for Disease Control (CDC) documents:
vulnerable-as in those who are in a vulnerable state
diversity-as in those of you not white
evidence based-as in it’s true
transgender-as in those of you not a man, preferably white
entitlement-as in a vulnerable state
It is in these sneaky, back channel, behind the noise decisions that slowly chip away at what the majority of us realize is simply being understanding, confident in yourself, having a willingness to accept change.
The vocabulary in question simply points out the mean-spirited nature of my president.
Sincerely,
Scott R. Blume,
Clarendon
