Robert “Red” G. Nearing, 77, of Youngsville, PA, and formerly of Clarendon, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at the Rouse Suites.
Red was born May 14, 1948, in Bradford, PA, to the late Robert J. and Pauline (Anderson) Nearing. Red was a 1966 graduate of Bradford High School and received an Associate’s degree in Nursing from Jamestown Community College and also received an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Edinboro University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War working as an Hospital Equipment Repairman. After returning home, Red worked for the Warren Borough and then the Warren City Police Department from 1970 to 1995, from which he retired. He then worked as a Warren County Constable and also worked at the Rouse as Nursing Manager.
Red was a member of the Church of Christ in Scandia, he was very dedicated to his faith. He enjoyed hunting, rescuing dogs, and especially loved spending time with his family. He spent five winters in Umatilla, Florida.
Red is survived by his wife, Janet L. (South) Nearing, whom he married on Jan. 13, 1968; three children, Eric Nearing and wife Barbara of Dayton, OH, Victoria Haight and husband Randall of Pittsfield, and Cynthia Townsend and husband Stafford of McKeesport, PA; grandchildren, Kyle (Ciara) Nearing of Englewood, OH, Matthew (Cassie) Nearing of Germantown, OH, Kara Haight of Pittsfield, Graham Haight of Pittsfield, Sarah Townsend of McKeesport, and Sydney Townsend of McKeesport; great grandchildren, Amelia and Emmett Nearing; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis E. Nearing.
Friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc, 1003 Penna. Ave. East, Warren, PA, on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, from 3 to 5pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, at 2 pm at the Church of Christ, 2194 Scandia Rd, Warren, PA. with visitation one hour prior. Military Honors will be provided by the Sheffield, Clarendon VFW, and Warren American Legion at 2 pm,
