William A. Martin

William A. Martin

William A. Martin, 79, of Youngsville, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, in the family farmhouse where he was born.

Bill was born on March 14, 1943, to Ellis and Helen (Anderson) Martin.

He grew up enjoying many adventures on the farm and graduated from Youngsville High School in 1962. After attending electrical technical school in Pittsburgh, Bill served his country in Vietnam before returning home to help run the family farm until his father retired and then went to work at the National Forge Company for 33 years.

In 1965, Bill married Judy Wilcox and together they built a life centered around family. Bill coached his sons baseball team, with Judy by his side keeping score, and served several years as the Upper Allegheny Hot Stove League Commissioner. Bill rarely missed a Cub Scout den meeting and even volunteered to the Girl Scout cookie chairman for his daughter’s troop. As VBi For Bill, the four seasons were football, NCAA basketball, golf, and baseball, with bowling thrown in for fun. Super Bowl Sunday was considered a holiday in the Martin household. His son will always think fondly of the hours spent golfing together, as his daughter cherishes memories of bowling side by side with her dad on leagues. As much as Bill loved being a dad, he loved being a grandpa, or G-Pa, as he was often affectionately called, even more and he was adored by his great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa.

Bill was proud of the countless volunteer hours he spent before, during, and after the fair each year serving on the electrical committee, being a part of many of the building projects, and working in the Pomona Grange before health issues forced him to step back. After Judy’s death in 2011, Bill was blessed to meet Jeanne Kreitzbender, who became his constant companion and dear family friend. Bill’s family will hold tight to his amazing sense of humor, infectious laugh, and the image of him on his mower meticulously caring for his lawn.

Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Lee Turk; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Cathy Martin; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Colby and Mallorie with their son, Max; Brianna and Jon with their children, Adison, Cameron, and Owen; Sierra and Brian with their children, Lily, Thomas, and Averyanna; Tess and Vinnie with their daughter, Bailey; and Jacob. He is also survived by brother Dale Martin: and his sisters: Beatrice Swanson and Nancy Stockham.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Johnson: and his sisters: Jean Martin and Aggie Polley.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m.-1p.m, on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 314 North Main St., Youngsville, where a funeral service will follow with the Rev. Nancy Schwanke officiating.
