Mary E. Johnson

She was born Feb. 2, 1954, in Jamestown, N.Y. Mary was the daughter of William R. and Mary Messenger Hinsdale.

Mary was a lifelong Sugar Grove, Pa.. resident. She was a 1972 graduate of Eisenhower High School and earned her licensed practical nursing degree. She was employed at Kinzua Valley Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center as a licensed practical nurse for 18 years, retiring in 2007.

She enjoyed wintering in Arizona and hiking in the desert with her good friend, Tomasa Aleman. She also enjoyed kayaking on the Colorado River. She was an avid quilter and member of a quilting group. Her family remembers her as always having an infectious smile and friends from all over the world. She always went above and beyond for her family.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Larry D. Johnson, whom she married July 1, 1972,, in Sugar Grove, Pa.; two Children: Shelley Zimmerman and her husband, Mike of Pitts-field, Pa., and Mark D. Johnson and his wife, Jillian of Warren, Pa.; one brother, William Hinsdale of Pittsfield, Pa.; four grandchildren: Ashlynn and Ethan Zimmerman and Kelsey and Liam Johnson; her longtime best friend, Mary Pochatko of Sugar Grove, Pa.: and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Hinsdale Walker.

A private funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
