Barbara Caroline Campbell

Barbara was born in Warren to Bergie D. and Helen (Nipgen) Benson. She was an only child and her father died of cancer when she was 9 years old. Her mother later married James K. Moore and she gained a stepbrother, Merton.

She graduated from WAHS in 1946 as class valedictorian. Barb then at-tended beauty school in Franklin, Pa., with plans of taking over her Aunt Anita Yaegle’s beauty shop business. Unfortunately, she was allergic to many of the beauty products and had to change course.

Barbara married Wayne P. Campbell on Aug. 12, 1950. She went to work for Bell Telephone and became the first female District Office Supervisor in PA. She quit working in 1952 when she was expecting their first child, Craig. Soon to follow was Becky, 1954, Lorrie, 1955 and David, 1958. She was a stay-at-home mom until the last of us entered Beaty Junior High. She then reentered the work force via the Warren School District, working 20-plus years at WAHS in the principal’s office where she was known as Mrs. Campbell.

For many years, Mom and Dad enjoyed hiking and x-country skiing with the Allegheny Outdoor Club. After retiring Mom also took up golf so she could see her husband more. They also took yearly vacations with their daughter Lorrie and tent-camped across the US seeing New England, Florida, and much of the west.

Barbara was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church where her husband Wayne sang in the choir for 40+ years.

Mom always said her biggest accomplishment in life was her children. She loved doing anything with family. As a big dog lover she was very active walking which helped her retain her health well into her late 80s. In recent years as her health declined, her fondest wish was to remain in her home of 68 years. With major help from her daughter-in-law Becky, son Craig, daughter Becky, and son David & wife Trina this was accomplished!

Surviving her are son Craig (Becky) Campbell, of Chandlers Valley, daughter Becky Campbell of N.Y. and Florida, daughter Lorrie (Dave) Ostrem of Montana, and son David (Trina) Campbell of Warren. In addition, Kelly Stevens (wife of the late Jason Stevens) and sister -in -law Frances Campbell (wife of the late Tom Campbell). Grandchildren, Frances Campbell (Jim Weilacher), David Campbell, Kelly (the late Jason Stevens wife), John (Kellie) Newman, Jesse (Susan) Johnson, Maryssa Schwartz, Erik (Leah) Campbell, Seth Campbell, Brittany, Jena, and Ethan Massa. Great grandchildren Luke, Cole, Quinn, Emma, Joey, and Jack.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, her parents, step-brother, Merton Moore, brother-in-law, Tom Campbell, her grand-son, Jason Stevens, and aunt and uncle, Anita and Harold Yaegle.

We are so going to miss you Mother. Thanks for our great childhoods and all you gave and taught us. May you rest in peace.
