Robert “Bob” Thomas Miley

Robert “Bob” Thomas Miley, 80 of New Castle, Delaware, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020, three months after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 31, 1939, in Kane, Pa., to the late Laurence E. and Leah Jones Miley, he was a graduate of Sheffield (Pa.) High School and Pennsylvania State University. Bob retired as Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force in 1990 after serving five years of active duty as a navigator and 24 years as a reservist.

Bob was a social studies teacher at Hanby Junior High and Newark High School in Delaware for over 25 years. During his teaching years he was actively involved in his state and school district’s teaching unions. He attended many national conferences for the National Education Association as well.

After retiring from teaching, Bob worked for Delaware Express Shuttle and Mercedes of Wilmington. He also was a volunteer for Meal on Wheels, the Play-house Theatre and the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE.

An avid Penn State Football fan, Bob was a season ticket holder for many seasons and a regular attendee at games in Happy Valley, including celebrating his 80th birthday last August at the 2019 season home opener.

Bob’s travels in the military took him all over the world and led to a love of travel. He was proud to have traveled to each of the 50 states and particularly en-joyed visiting Hawaii, Florida and any island or beach!

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail C. Miley, his daughter, Laura (David) Hughes and granddaughter, Ella, of West Grove, Pa. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Miley of Allentown, Pa., and his sister Mar-go Rounds of Warren, Pa., as well as one nephew, David Rounds of Pittsburgh, Pa., and brother in law, Wendell Cavender of Charleston, West Virginia.

A visitation was held Thursday, July 9, 2020, at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GEN-EREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, Pa. Per the family wishes, burial in Delaware Veterans Cemetery is private.
